However, choosing this type of paint isn't always recommended, primarily due to its composition, which isn't necessarily natural. More commonly known as water-based paint, this type of paint is primarily composed of petrochemical components—up to 60%, to be exact.

Glycerophthalic paint is known for its effectiveness on specific surfaces. It's perfectly suitable for a living room, but we don't recommend it, particularly because its composition can cause health problems.

The best alternative remains ecological and bio-sourced paints: in addition to guaranteeing respect for the environment, these paints will also simply protect your health with much fewer VOCs.

Now that you've made your choice and want to apply Algo paint, you need to decide on the finish that will enhance your wall decor. There are three finishes available: matte, satin, and velvet. Another advantage is that Algo paint is easy to apply, just like acrylic paint.

Choose a satin or velvet look for your living room

For a living room, the choice of finish is important to consider. Matte is a recommended finish if you have imperfections on your walls (holes and cracks in particular), and of course, matte is the one to use for the ceiling.

Satin is a very useful finish for walls if you need a paint that can be washed. Its ease of maintenance is recognized and its resistance to humidity is recognized. It is therefore an excellent point if your living room is an open room on the kitchen. If satin scares you because of its sometimes criticized shine, do not worry! How to paint your living room walls?

Preparing the walls is essential

Before repainting your living room, as with any other room in your house, careful wall preparation is essential. This may even be necessary depending on the condition of your surfaces and, in this case, the wall to be painted.

Cleaning the walls is very important: first with a slightly damp cloth, with soapy water if your walls have had to face the test of time (grease stains, dust, etc.). This is also the time to fill your wall if it has cracks or holes with plaster. You will then only have to sand your wall with sandpaper to obtain a smooth and uniform wall.

Opt for a matte finish for ceilings

We most often talk about walls, but not always about the ceiling, which is essential when you want to repaint your living room. The paint to use in the living room or dining room is the same as for the walls.

The difference lies in the finish, which is different from the one that should be used. In fact, we recommend using a matte finish for your ceiling.

Use an undercoat before applying paint

Skipping the primer is taking risks with the rendering and the final result. The primer is a product (also called a bonding primer) that is almost essential for any room and any surface, regardless of the color you wish to use. Its role is very simple: to promote the adhesion of the top coat and guarantee a satisfactory result, thus limiting problems with adhesion, performance, and more generally, application.

Before painting your living room walls, make sure you choose the right tools for the best possible results. We don't always think about it, but some tools are more recommended than others.

For Algo eco-friendly paint, for example, it's recommended to use a 14mm microfiber roller to get the best possible paint coverage on your living room wall. Among the essential tools, it's also a good idea to have a brush handy for painting edges and corners. To go further, using a paint tray is also almost mandatory to evenly distribute the paint on the roller.

For a perfectly successful application in your living room, apply the paint in a thin, thick layer and consider two top coats, maybe even three if you're using a bright shade. Don't overload your roller and, above all, paint in sections. The painter's enemy is streaks that appear when drying, especially if you're applying a color. By rolling your roller over the wall you've just painted, you'll greatly reduce this risk.
