At Algo, we've designed a bathroom ceiling paint that resists condensation, splashes, and heat, while respecting the air you breathe.
Made from algae and free from petrochemical compounds, our paint offers excellent adhesion to ceilings subject to humidity.
Its satin finish hides small irregularities while adding a simple and elegant touch. Whether you're renovating or working on a new project, our eco-friendly solution allows you to combine performance, health, and aesthetics.
Choose the right paint for your bathroom ceiling
Before painting your bathroom, and more specifically your ceiling, it is important to take into account the constraints linked to this room.
The main constraints in a bathroom are the presence of humidity, temperature variations or water vapor which can be noticed after taking a shower.
It's essential to use paint that can withstand these specific conditions. Otherwise, it's not impossible for the paint to react negatively in a bathroom. The main problems associated with paint that isn't suitable for humid environments are potential mold growth, but also the appearance of blisters or even peeling of the paint when it reacts with water and humidity.
For all these reasons, you need a paint that is of sufficient quality to be able to resist possible damage to the paint, but above all that is totally compatible with being used in a humid environment.
What paint should I use for the bathroom ceiling?
If you've done any research before learning about Algo paints, you've probably seen paints specifically designed for wet rooms, including bathrooms. These paints, which promise superior quality for wet room surfaces, are not always reliable.
Classic paints are increasingly being reused for specific applications, such as bathrooms. Acrylic paint, also known as water-based paint, is often mentioned, although it is not the best solution.
This is why our paint is completely suitable for use in a bathroom, and more particularly on the ceiling, thus perfectly resisting humidity and condensation, helping to prevent any mold on the walls of your room.
Beyond these considerations, the finish is crucial for the success of your bathroom painting project, as well as for the durability of the product on the walls of your room. This is why a satin finish is by far the one to use for your bathroom ceiling.
Of course, it's customary to use matte on the ceiling of a room, at least in a conventional room. When undertaking work in a damp room, the need is more oriented towards a satin finish, and there are several reasons why this is necessary.
First, not all finishes offer the same resistance to moisture. Matte painted surfaces in a bathroom could cause mold to appear due to excessive condensation. This isn't the quality of the paint that would be at fault, but simply its use, which isn't necessarily appropriate.
Likewise, condensation can be a weight issue and in this context, satin is once again more suitable.
Finally, for bathroom maintenance, it's easier to clean your ceiling with a satin finish. For all these reasons, satin is a choice that stands out due to its characteristics.
How to paint the bathroom ceiling correctly
Preparing your support is essential
There are no major differences between a bathroom ceiling and the ceiling of any other type of room.
Preparing your bathroom ceiling is essential, just like any other room in the house: cleaning the ceiling is the first step. Specifically, it's degreasing and removing mold that's important first.
Depending on the condition of your ceiling, you may notice cracks, which you can fill with filler if necessary. Applying filler is essential before painting your bathroom ceiling and is part of surface preparation.
As with paint, it is important to choose an undercoat that is suitable for your surface, but especially for the bathroom environment, which is known to be humid and prone to condensation.
Applying paint to the bathroom ceiling
The primer on your bathroom ceiling is applied in the same way as the topcoat. The only difference to consider before repainting the surface is the number of coats you'll apply—limited to one.
The finishing paint is applied in 1m2 portions. When you finish a surface, we recommend making another pass with your roller without reloading it in order to avoid roller marks as much as possible.
What tools should I use to paint the ceiling?
Painting the ceiling isn't always easy. The main obstacle remains the ceiling height. Corners are also important and not always accessible. Use a sash brush for hard-to-reach areas, such as corners, for the cleanest possible effect.
