Between color, paint type, and finish, choosing the right paint can be a difficult task. Fortunately, the Algo team can advise you on the right finish to optimally decorate your home!
From matte to satin, Algo has what you need!
The Algo Déco range distributed by our partner Initiative Décoration is mainly composed of satin finish, however all our shades are also available in matt on our e-commerce site . If you consider the choice of shade or type of paint to be predominant in your final decision, the choice of finish is certainly not to be neglected and for good reason: here are the characteristics of matt and satin paint.
"I understand that satin paint is shinier, is that true?"
This is partly true. Satin paint is a happy medium between matte and glossy paint. While the finish will be silkier and shinier, be careful before making your choice: satin paint isn't glossy; it's simply a brighter finish than matte. Its composition makes daylight more reflective.
Satin paint is often associated with modern and contemporary ambiances par excellence.
If you want to use a satin, and therefore semi-gloss, finish, caution must be exercised to achieve the desired result. Surface preparation is essential before applying your Algo paint: a clean, consistent, and healthy base will allow you to carry out your work with complete peace of mind.
If your surface is poorly prepared and has defects, then the satin paint will reflect the defects in your wall or woodwork.
Matte paint, a more sober finish
If you want a sober, discreet and elegant ambiance, then there's no doubt about it: the matte finish is the one for your interior. This is one of the biggest differences with satin paint, which is brighter. The matte finish is often presented as a covering paint and rougher to the touch when dry than satin paint. But the other key characteristic of this finish is the final result provided by a matte paint, since it will tend to mask the imperfections of the surface.
So don't panic if the surface to be painted has some slight defects, the matte paint will alter them.
This finish is often the cause of distrust among applicators because of its difficult to wash aspect, but Algo has the solution by offering a washable product whether the finish is satin or matte.
And what about the undercoat?
The undercoat, also called "primer," is very often recommended during painting work. This preliminary application to the application of a finishing coat (matte or satin) is white in color and becomes invisible when the finish is applied.
While its application is not mandatory, to be able to do without it, it is necessary to provide a particularly sound and consistent base and have an adhesive support. In the case of materials such as placo, for example, the use of an underlay is strongly recommended, if not mandatory.
As you can see, the less adhesive your surface is, the more you need an undercoat. This will be the case for surfaces that are too porous or, on the contrary, not porous enough!
