For all your wooden surfaces, white paint is obviously a classic, according to everyone, just as it is for an interior wall. Timeless and versatile, white is certainly one of the essentials when it comes to paint for wooden furniture.

There are many reasons for choosing to use paint for your furniture: aesthetic, firstly to modernize your woodwork and give your furniture a new lease of life. To protect your furniture by adding a coat of paint with the option of adding varnish. Painting or repainting wooden furniture is also considered a hobby for many of you.

So before you get started, we offer our advice to help you understand how wood paint is different from traditional paint and how to choose your white paint for wood.

If you haven't had a chance to check out our guides on using paint on wooden surfaces, we're offering a catch-up session.

Why use a specific paint for wood?

Wood is a conventional and very common support, but when we analyze in detail the different types of wood, we can easily notice that there are many: melamine, MDF, oak ... Regarding specific woods, it is therefore important to use products that are compatible and have the ability to be applied to these materials. White multi-surface paint is not necessarily compatible with this type of use because it does not necessarily have all the characteristics.

This is why many manufacturers offer a specific range for woodwork. Two very important elements to understand the importance of using a special paint for your wooden surface: the first is the adhesion capacity, the adhesion of the paint will naturally be different depending on whether it is used on a wall or on woodwork. It is also important to think about the quality of the paint and that it respects the fibers and the appearance of your wood without damaging it.

Most importantly, wood paint must be durable and long-lasting. In other words, wood paint must protect your woodwork from scratches, bumps, and moisture.

The different paints for wood

Among the most commonly used products for painting wooden furniture are glycerophthalic paint, acrylic paint (also called water-based paint) and bio-based paints (although few manufacturers offer natural products for furniture).

The application of paint on the furniture will not differ depending on the type of paint, however it is important to consider the characteristics of these paints before starting work on your wooden furniture. Eco-friendly paints are those that will be recommended for your wooden surfaces since they will preserve your health as well as offer a high level of performance. Acrylic paints, even if they are water-based, are not eco-friendly.

The painting finish

Matte or satin? Choosing the right finish for your painting project isn't always easy. As with walls, satin tends to be shiny, while matte produces a sleek, contemporary look that's perfect for creating a modern ambiance in your home.

Some reasons to paint your furniture white

Practical and aesthetic advantages, it is not for nothing that we want to use white paint to repaint the woodwork.

White has the ability to reflect light, as it is a luminous color that will give your furniture an undeniable sense of clarity and modernity. Another advantage is that white has the advantage of fitting into any type of interior and adapting to all possible atmospheres.

The possibilities for white shades are very vast today: you can therefore choose a colored white or a white shade that will be a little closer to a sheet of paper.

Wooden items you can use white paint on

Algo paint is compatible with a wide range of wooden elements, which gives you a wide range of possibilities for painting or repainting elements of your decor.

Breathe new life into your old furniture by painting it white. A chest of drawers, wardrobe, or even chairs can be painted white. This will add originality and a modern feel to any room.

Other possibilities: nothing prevents you from using paint on interior woodwork such as baseboards, paneling, or exposed beams to offer the ability to visually enlarge spaces. Often overlooked, these elements also guarantee the decoration of your interior, but it is also a guarantee of quality to use a paint specific to wood for this type of use.

As you know, white is used for its versatility and ability to be combined with a wide range of colors and materials. To this end, you can combine white with colored walls. In a living room or bedroom, for example, white elements offer the opportunity to combine the neutrality of white with a brighter color, such as forest green.

Mix and match materials to create a variety of designs: for example, copper or matte black for a chic look. Other options: personalize your creations with patina or stencils, for example.

How to use white furniture paint?

Start by preparing the wood

Preparing your wood surface is essential before applying white paint. Cleaning the surface, or the wooden furniture, is essential. Do this with a dry cloth, and you can use a mild degreaser or a little water to remove grease residue and tougher stains.

The preparation of your surfaces will have an impact on the ability of the paint to adhere to your furniture; it would be a shame to do without it.

Once the surface is cleaned, you can then move on to the sanding step, which is essential to promote paint adhesion: using 120 grit sandpaper. An electric sander can help you if you have large surfaces, while traditional hand sanding will provide more precision.

Should I use an undercoat for wood?

Undercoat is a recommended product for its ability to ensure better adhesion of the finishing paint to your materials. This is especially true if you use a multi-surface product. Regarding Algo furniture paints, undercoat is not mandatory since this product is suitable and dedicated to woodwork.

Be careful, however, if the wood is tannic, the use of an undercoat will be strongly recommended in this case to avoid yellow stains and the effects that can be caused by rising tannin.

Use the right tools

After preparing your wood and selecting the right product to renovate your furniture, it is now time to choose the right tools for your wooden furniture and woodwork, and thus offer the ability to obtain the best possible result.

The essential tools are a soft paintbrush, a roller, or a rabbit's foot, depending on the type and size of the surface you have to paint. Although it may seem trivial, we recommend using new tools to ensure the final result. Since furniture is not a smooth, flat surface, consider using tarps to protect your floor and the surrounding area.

Our tips for a successful application

Applying thin, thick layers with a roller is essential for a smooth, even finish. It's likely that applying thick layers will optimize the furniture's waterproofing, save time, and provide greater durability. So remember not to overload your roller, regardless of the product, including varnish.

In fact, you will get a result that is not necessarily uniform and will cause drips.

Drying time between coats is also a key to success: follow the manufacturer's instructions before applying a second coat (or even a third for the most vibrant colors). Thorough drying ensures a strong, durable finish.

Work in a space that's ideal for painting: away from drafts, especially, and in a room where the ambient temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees. We don't necessarily think about it: too low a temperature slows down the drying time, and conversely, too high a temperature will make the paint too sticky and potentially encourage the appearance of bubbles.

Apply a varnish to protect your materials

Don't skimp on applying a varnish; it's highly recommended to ensure the protection of your furniture and materials and will provide you with a silkier, more harmonious coating. We offer two types of varnish to protect the white paint on your woodwork: a silky varnish and a glossy varnish, with stock available in 0.5 liters and 2 liters with a more advantageous price per liter.

Varnish is a product that has the ability to prolong and ensure better quality of your woodwork.

How much does white furniture paint cost?

It's true that furniture paint will cost more than traditional wall and ceiling paint. Depending on the type of furniture paint, the price can also vary, which can influence your decision about the paint you're going to use.

The furniture paint pot costs €24.90 for 0.5 liters. We also offer a 2-liter pack, saving you money with a significantly lower price per liter.

Beyond furniture paint, we offer 100 colors in stock to ensure the greatest pleasure for your materials and woodwork.
