What paint should I use to repaint kitchen furniture?

Choosing the right paint is very important, even essential! Indeed, not all paints are necessarily suitable for use in a kitchen, especially on furniture. Due to the daily use of your kitchen elements and grease splashes or simply cooking fumes, it is advisable to use a paint that will be able to offer a guarantee of durability over time.

The washability of the paint is necessary to properly maintain the surface, particularly in the case of stains of all kinds, which is common in a kitchen.

Another important criterion is that the choice of paint can be made based on its composition: it is important to choose a paint that is as natural as possible, thus releasing as few VOCs as possible.

Algo paints are made from natural, bio-sourced elements and are European Ecolabel certified, thus guaranteeing the reliability of our paints.

How to repaint kitchen cabinets?

When repainting kitchen cabinets, it's important to proceed step by step. First, surface preparation is important: "the surfaces must be clean, sound, and dry."

Before painting, remember to sand your furniture

In the vast majority of cases, sanding is necessary. Cleaning and/or degreasing may also be recommended. To carry out this operation, a cloth slightly dampened with a solution of clear water and baking soda will help you.

Painting raw wood furniture

If your furniture is made of raw wood, then the preparation consists of sanding with sandpaper and dusting.

Refurbishing a piece of painted, stained, varnished, melamine or laminated wood furniture

Sanding is highly recommended, using fine-grit sandpaper before dusting. You can degrease with acetone and allow the surface to dry.

On a tannic support

Depending on the range of paint chosen, it will be recommended to first apply a suitable undercoat to prevent tannin from rising.

Carry out the renovation of kitchen furniture

Like bathroom fixtures, Algo furniture paint can be applied to the vast majority of kitchen surfaces: unfinished wood, cupboards, melamine or laminate furniture. When applying to more sensitive surfaces, applying a varnish will be a real bonus, especially on worktops.

Apply the paint to your kitchen furniture using a brush or lacquer roller, working from top to bottom on smooth surfaces and in the direction of the grain on wooden furniture. It is recommended to apply the paint between 12 and 25°C for optimal drying.

It is important to apply two thin layers of furniture paint.

The complete drying time between each coat is 24 hours, which helps promote paint adhesion. However, the paint is touch dry after 30 minutes.
