Our color ideas for decorating your teenager's bedroom

Colors are often open to interpretation and individual tastes: this is a criterion to take into account when painting any room in your home, and even more so for a teenager's bedroom.

A shade can be interesting depending on the atmosphere you want to give to your room, and colors have an impact on your teenager's mood. So don't take this choice lightly: for example, colors like blue tend to bring serenity and calm. On the other hand, brighter and more pronounced colors like red or yellow, for example, are colors that will bring real dynamism and energy.

This dynamic can of course contrast with softer colors like beige, white and gray, whether in a total look or in combination.

Gray or white for a sober trend

White, beige and to some extent gray are shades that are recommended for all rooms in the house in general, and for good reason: they are very easy to combine and are completely neutral.

Be careful, neutral doesn't mean a shade that's out of style! Depending on how the color is paired and the type of color, it can add real character to the room. Among our selection, we offer a few essential shades among basic and timeless colors.

Warm white is a very fashionable shade and therefore widely used by our customers. Bright, this white is very warm and will ensure a trendy look in addition to being timeless. Certainly the most suitable white for a teenager's room, it will prove itself as a total look as well as combined with brighter shades. Another advantage is that it will be perfect for adding depth to the room thanks to the luminous character it offers.

Cherry Blossom Beige is also a safe bet: ideal for complementing a harmonious paint scheme on a section of wall, this slightly pinkish beige stands out for its delicacy. It will be especially suitable for a girl's bedroom, and will bring a Zen atmosphere.

Pearl gray is also one of the shades that is intended to be suitable: sophisticated and timeless. It has the advantage of being a light, warm gray without being cold. While gray might not necessarily come to mind at first glance, it remains an interesting color, especially on a section of wall for a possible office area.

Blue and green for a modern wall decoration

Blue and green are very trendy colors and it's a great choice for a teenager's bedroom!

Blue is a universal color, and its wide palette makes it a color that's generally appreciated by everyone. Discover the colors we've carefully selected for children's bedrooms, which evoke tranquility and peace and can help create a pleasant atmosphere in a teenager's room.

Clematis blue is a trendy blue that brings a touch of serenity: blue brightened with a touch of green and a light touch of gray, it will find its perfect place in your teenager's bedroom as a total look or combined with other colors.

The marquise color is identifiable by its high gray content, making it easy to combine with other colors. Its advantage: its timeless side will allow you to anticipate future trends!

Regarding greens: several colors are to be highlighted and first and foremost our peacock green: a color very linked to nature, peacock green is inspired by the color of our undergrowth. A pleasant and trendy color, it allows to combine subtlety and charm of this color bringing a real presence whatever the room.

Another star color in our color chart is restful green, which is the most popular green among our customers. With its great versatility, it will work in any room of your home, especially for a teenager's bedroom. A soft color, restful green is ideal when paired with a warm white or a darker blue.

If you're torn between blue and green, then there's no doubt about it: playful blue-green is for you. A hybrid color, it will blend seamlessly with white or a darker blue. An expressive shade, it will bring real dynamism to the room when applied to bedroom walls.

Use of bright colors: in moderation!

Your teenager might be tempted to use bright colors to express their personality. While using bright colors may be recommended, we still recommend being careful about the distribution of colors.

Our expert Anne-Sophie recommends using no more than three shades in a room when combining colors. A bright shade is often darker, and as such, the dark color should be used in the minority or in patterns to ensure the room's dynamism.

How to paint a teenager's bedroom?

To paint a teenager's bedroom, you'll need the following tools and accessories: a flat paint tray, a 14mm microfiber roller, a sash brush to clear the corners, and smooth masking tape to protect the edges. Tarps may also be necessary if you don't want to move the furniture for painting.

Most importantly, you will need primer and finishing wall paint, ideally satin or velvet, which will be more suitable for bedrooms in general.

First and foremost, you'll be advised to prepare the walls of your teenager's room to ensure the best possible finish. To do this, you'll need to remove wallpaper and any traces of glue, or simply sand the walls if paint was applied.

Once the wall is sanded, or if it is in poor condition, you can start applying your undercoat and finish paint.

For optimal results, you will need to apply a primer and two coats of wall paint. Allow 12 hours for each coat to dry.
