How to choose a special moisture-resistant bathroom paint?

The bathroom is a special interior room: in fact, it is a room known for the humidity it gives off due to the use we can have of it on a daily basis.

Choosing the right paint for your bathroom is therefore important because you should know that not all paints are necessarily suitable for use in bathrooms.

First of all, resistance to humidity must be a fundamental criterion: in fact, a resistant paint is essential, especially since the washability of the paint is an element to take into account.

Hold and durability are also important conditions because it is necessary that your paint can withstand the particular humidity conditions once it is applied.

Glycero, epoxy, acrylic or ecological: which paint should you choose for your bathroom?

As you know, there are several types of paint for your bathroom: but ultimately, which paint should you choose?

Glycero paint will have the advantage of being resistant to water and humidity but will also have the unfortunate disadvantage of emitting a strong odor that can be unpleasant, which is why acrylic paint will be preferred.

Acrylic paint is a paint commonly called "water-based paint", emitting less odor but which remains potentially dangerous for health and the environment.

As for epoxy paint, it also gives off a very strong odor.

Algo paints are natural paints formulated with algae, emitting very little odor and less than 1g/VOC per liter. The good news is that, like "conventional paints," these paints are perfectly suited for use in bathrooms: particularly the satin finish, which remains popular for bathroom applications.

Satin, lacquered, matte or velvet finish: which finish should you choose for the bathroom?

As mentioned earlier, the durability and washability of the paint is a very important element in choosing your paint finish.

Matte is therefore not recommended for a bathroom because its resistance to humidity and water splashes is lower compared to a lacquered or satin finish, for example. In the medium to long term, the matte finish could cause water stains on the walls of your bathroom, which will not make it a suitable finish for your bathroom walls.

The satin finish is known for being more suitable for use in a damp room such as the bathroom: its washable nature and elegant appearance will be two valuable assets for decorating both the walls and the ceiling of your bathroom.

While it is often customary to apply a matte finish to the ceilings of your rooms, it will be more appropriate to use a satin finish in humid rooms such as the bathroom.

How to paint a bathroom?

As with any other room in the house, preparing for painting is a very important step!

It is very important that the surfaces to be painted in your bathroom are clean and dry and therefore contain as little moisture as possible.

This therefore involves cleaning your walls to remove any traces of mold.

When your wall is clean, dry, healthy and consistent, you can then prepare all the materials needed to carry out your painting work and apply an undercoat (as in a classic room) allowing the satin finish to adhere better to the surface.

When your undercoat is dry, you can then apply your two finishing coats of satin paint: with a roller, brush or rabbit's foot.

Be careful, however, to differentiate the types of supports on which you apply the paint: in fact, not all of them will be suitable for application on earthenware tiles, for example.

This is the case with Algo paints, for example, where painting this type of surface therefore requires the use of a specific undercoat dedicated to this type of use.

Trendy colors to apply in a bathroom

There are many shades that can be applied in a bathroom, and choosing colors can be complex: shades known as neutrals such as white or beige are colors that can be applied in a bathroom, mainly because of their ability to make spaces bright.

Other shades are also popular in a bathroom, especially in the range of blues and greens.

This selection highlights our best-selling bathroom products and the blue range: there's plenty to choose from!

Watercolor sky blue and clematis blue will be two ideal shades to decorate your bathroom with the softness and lightness that characterize these shades.

Watercolor sky blue is a soft pastel blue that will add a spacious feel to your room. The same goes for our clematis blue shade, which is a more colorful alternative to our watercolor sky blue.

Its subtle hint of green enhances the character of this shade while retaining the delicate appearance of this color.

Prefer to go green? Then don't worry, we also have the shades you need for your bathroom.

Sea greens are very fashionable at the moment, and that's a good thing: these are the colors we're mainly going to recommend to you.

First: Soothing Sea Green is a delicate shade that leans more towards green than blue. Our Soothing Sea Green shade will be sophisticated.

A refreshing color, it will be perfectly suited to your bathroom. Relaxing spa green is also a suitable color for your bathroom: note that relaxing spa green will have a little more character than soothing sea green and will stand out for its sophistication.

Our customers have asked us:

👉 What paint for bathroom ceilings?

In general, it is often recommended to use a matte finish on the ceilings of the rooms in your interior.

However, when painting your bathroom ceiling, it is recommended to choose a satin paint because it is washable compared to a matte finish.

👉 What underlay for the bathroom?

As with all other interior parts, primer is highly recommended. The choice of primer is important because it will ensure the best possible adhesion when applying the top coat.

We recommend using a condensation and moisture resistant undercoat, such as Algo paints, to ensure durability.

👉 What paint finish for a bathroom?

For your bathroom, you will be recommended to use a satin finish on the wall surfaces as well as on the ceiling of the room.

The washability of the satin finish is a major advantage in ensuring the durability of your paint film. Humidity resistance is also increased with satin, compared to matte.
