Velvet has been making a name for itself in our interiors for several years now. This phenomenon is accentuated by the texture offered by these paints and the multiple possibilities offered by velvet. Indeed, the velvet finish allows you to combine the advantages of other finishes, thus offering an intermediate possibility.

Its unique characteristics have simply won over interior design professionals, but also more and more individuals looking for the most aesthetic appearance for the walls of their interior.

Velvet: a finish with only advantages

From a technical and aesthetic point of view, velvet is the ideal finish to apply to the walls of your interior.

Velvet is characterized by a velvety, soft texture. This aesthetic characteristic simply takes into account the combination of the opaque aspect of matte with the shine offered by satin: this results in a finish that can be applied in all rooms of the house and an absolutely versatile product that guarantees good durability.

Another real advantage of velvet is its durability. Velvet is a washable finish, as are matte and satin finishes.

Matte is said to correct imperfections and defects in a surface, and the same is true of velvet, guaranteeing a more aesthetic finish.

Satin is sometimes considered too shiny a finish, which can be an obstacle to choosing this finish: velvet addresses this problem with the addition of a velvety appearance that mixes the satin and matte appearance.

In addition to being able to be applied to a wall, velvet paint can also be applied to woodwork or a ceiling (where satin is not necessarily recommended for ceilings).

A complete range of paint colors

Our entire color chart is available in velvet. As you know, the Algo color chart's range of colors isn't compatible with RAL colors. However, whether you want to apply color or white, the panel is complete.

We distinguish between two types of colors: neutral and timeless colors and deep colors.

Of course, white is also strongly represented: notably grand blanc and pure blanc which are the two standard whites.

Among the deep shades, we can easily highlight shades of green, blue or terracotta which will accentuate the sophisticated side of your interior creating a warm atmosphere.

This observation is also accompanied by the fact that velvet perfectly captures and reflects the light that the room can contain, providing a satisfactory result, particularly on deep colors that can visually saturate the wall on which it is applied.

For more neutral colors like gray, brown or beige: the texture offered by velvet paint will create a warm atmosphere in your interior.

To help you make your choice, discover our key shades:

Cherry Blossom Beige:

A delicate and sophisticated color, the effect produced by cherry blossom beige is striking, as this soft color is easy to wear and apply. As a total look or paired with a brighter color, this beige is one of our best-selling shades.

Terracotta Madagascar:

The essential Madagascar terracotta is still a very trendy color in our color chart. Apply it to an accent wall in a living room and the effect will be immediate. A creamy beige or warm white will be a perfect ally to highlight the terracotta.

Rose Bréhat:

An earthy color in keeping with the times, Bréhat pink is a shade that appeals to both young and old. A natural shade, this shade is very easy to live with and can be easily applied to any room in your home.

A finish suitable for every room in the house

As seen previously, you have no questions to ask yourself regarding the compatibility of velvet in your interior: all rooms are concerned.

You can match the velvet application with existing furniture and accessories to enhance the effect produced by the velvet application.

In a living room:

Opt for warm colors, you can also dare to use bolder colors on an accent wall to establish your personality or bring a more sophisticated atmosphere to your living room.

In a bedroom:

Neutral and soothing colors are very popular for a bedroom: among these shades, powder pink or light blues are perfect, and water greens are also colors that we recommend you highlight.

Trendier colors like terracotta are also very popular.

Our professional advice for applying velvet paint

First, make sure you have the right products for your project. In addition to paint, you'll need an undercoat, also known as a primer or primer, to even out the walls of your room and block out the backgrounds.

To achieve a professional result, the quality of your painting project begins with the preparation of the surfaces.

After cleaning your walls, inspect for any imperfections (cracks and holes in particular). This may require you to use additional products such as filler before painting, for example.

Applying the undercoat is the first of the 3 coats to be applied: you will in fact have to apply the finishing paint in two coats, potentially in three coats if you choose a bright color.

The ideal way to avoid roller marks is to apply the paint in 1m2 areas, and to go over the surface again to evenly distribute any excess paint.

Carefully follow the drying time recommended by the manufacturer, which is 12 hours for Algo paint.

How much does velvet paint cost?

Velvet paint is generally a more expensive finish than matte or satin. For Algo paints, the price per liter starts at €7.50 excluding delivery costs.
